CTSP young workers - making things happen

Port-au-Prince, March 31, 2012

Quite fittingly a group of eight young CTSP young members  was the first the meet in the recently opened new offices. Tifonie Powell, IA young workers’ representative on the PSI Executive Board met with a group of young workers from member unions of the CTSP. Over the past year, Tifonie and Marie Danielle Pierre-Charles, CTSP’s young workers’ coordinator, have been exchanging ideas on ways to integrate more young workers as well as find ways to reach out to young people across Haiti.

Intent on promoting quality public services as key for a sustainable future, young worker s in the CTSP believe that they have an important role to play by incorporating various aspects of PSI’s Quality Public Services Campaign in their activities. In early March, the Caribbean SUBRAC endorsed proposals by young workers to focus QPS activities in close partnership and cooperation with CTSP and its young workers.

“I am so happy. The IAMREC meeting has provided an opportunity for Tifonie to meet other young workers and for us to start planning our activities. I am excited about what we can do”, said Mie Danielle at the end of the meeting. The young workers talked about PSI’s global campaign on Quality Public Services and PSI’s work with young workers. An important area of work is trade union education and training. The Haitian young workers want to learn more about trade unionism and especially about the role of public services.

Together, these young workers will help to chart the way forward for the CTSP.
